Managing Director & Founder
A pioneer practitioner of Operations Research & Management Science with over thirty years of experience in logistics and supply chain planning & optimisation, strategic planning and manpower planning. He has guided the development work in HR strategy and operations, supply chain issues including ammunition storage planning, manufacturing facility design, spares optimization and national level healthcare and library services. He continues to advise on these matters to various government agencies.
Mr. Sim studied in Yokohama National University under Japan’s Mombusho Scholarship and graduated in 1983 with a B.Eng. in Naval Architecture. He won a Ministry of Defence scholarship in 1988 to study Operations Research at the US Naval Postgraduate School and graduated in 1989 with an M.Sc.(with Distinction).
He is a Past President of the Operations Research Society of Singapore, member of INFORMS (US-based OR professional society), and member of the UK Operational Research Society. He was appointed Adjunct Professor at Zhejiang University Ningbo Institute of Technology from Jun 2009 to May 2011 and was an Adjunct Lecturer at Institute of System Science -National University of Singapore and the Singapore Civil Service College.
He served on the Scientific Advisory Committee for National Research Foundation’s Future Resilient Systems research programme. He is a member of Xinova’s Inventor Network contributing ideas to solve challenging business problems.
He is proficient in English, Japanese and Mandarin.
Prof. Chen Chuan Chong
Prof. Chen specialises in Maths and Operations Research with over thirty years of experience in lecturing and research supervision at the National University of Singapore (NUS). His research interests are in Lattice Theory, Graph Theory and Combinatorics.
Prior to joining IDSC in the Board of Directors, he was Director of IT/Education Program at the Logistics Institute Asia Pacific in NUS.
Prof. Chen headed the division of Combinatorics & Operational Research in the Department of Mathematics, NUS from 1993 to 1996. He was a member of the Singapore International Mathematical Olympiad Committee from 1986 to 2000, and was chairman of the committee from 1986 to 1991. He was the Chairman of the NUS Faculty Club Management committee in 1997 and Vice-Chairman of the club and Chairman of its Sports Subcommittee from 1993 to 1995. He was Vice President of the Singapore Mathematical Society from 1988 to 1990.
He was an editor for Discrete Mathematics, A Special Issue on Chromatic Polynomials and Related Topics (1995/96). His most recent publication together with T T Tjhung, Y H Chew and Erji Wang was on Multiple Delay Capture Probabilities and Performance of DS-CDMA Slotted ALOHA Packet Radio System in the Research Report of Institute for Infocomm Research Agency for Science in 2003.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree at Nanyang University in Singapore and a Masters of Science and Ph.D. at Queens University in Canada.
He is an ardent golf and tennis enthusiast and is fluent in English and Mandarin.
Dr. Ng Cher Siang
Dr Ng has more than thirty years of experience in the food industry, covering sectors such as seafood processing, poultry abattoir operations, mini market operations and the bakery and confectionery industry.
He was in the bakery industry for over twenty-four years, including six years as the Managing Director of Gardenia Foods (S) Pte Ltd. His experiences covered product development, industrial manufacturing, food quality and safety, logistics and distribution. He had performed duties as property developer (for factory building) and principal for factory machine purchases and installations.
Dr Ng spent more than thirteen years in the Marine Fisheries Research Department (MFRD). The MFRD is a component of the South East Asian Fisheries Development Centre (SEAFDEC), a multi government organisation. His activities included research and development in fisheries post harvest technologies. He had conducted numerous training courses and transfer of technology to both government and commercial trainees from South East Asian countries.
Dr Ng graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Singapore. He received a Research Scholarship from the National University of Singapore and graduated with a Doctorate degree in Microbiology. He also graduated from the American Institute of Baking in the field of baking science.
Chan Kum Yew
A seasoned leader with over thirty years of experience in IT, training and consultancy business, twenty-six years of which are with Hewlett Packard. As Director of Quality, he led the development of a Quality Management System for a global manufacturing network which delivered products renowned for their top quality. He was a leadership sponsor of the HP Lean Sigma programme. His last role at HP was the Senior Director of Manufacturing for laser printers.
Mr Chan was the CEO of TUV SUD PSB Learning Private Ltd, a training and consultancy business unit subsidiary of the TUV SUD group of companies. This company helps regional corporate clients and local individuals in developing their employees’ skills and improving their processes.
Prior to his association with IDSC, Mr Chan was providing business advisory services in the areas of quality, manufacturing and supply chain, and speaking at technical seminars.
Mr Chan holds a Bachelor Degree (First-Class Honours) and a Master’s Degree in Engineering from the National University of Singapore. He possesses an Advance Diploma in Training & Assessment (ACTA) from the Singapore Workforce Development Agency and a Professional Diploma in Data Analytics from NUS Institute of Systems Science.
Tan Su Yin
Ms Tan is an established marketeer with over twenty-five years of marketing and sales experience in IBM covering hardware, software, business consulting and financing. Her specialties include strategy planning, market segmentation, campaign and program development, demand programs, project management, distributed channel management, industry and account-based marketing.
She holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the National University of Singapore and a post-graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis from the Institute of Systems Science.
